Police are still looking for two men linked to a shooting that wounded an 18-year-old woman near Friends University on Wednesday night.

The men, both in their 20s, knocked on the door of a house in the 400 block of South Edwards at 8:20 p.m., Wichita police Lt. Joe Schroeder said. That is southwest of Maple and Meridian and a few blocks west of Friends.

They tried to coax the woman’s 19-year-old boyfriend outside onto the porch, police have said, but he refused. They then tried to force their way inside the front door, but the man and woman pushed back against the door and kept them out, Schroeder said.

One of the two men then pulled out a gun and fired two shots through the door, he said. One of the bullets hit the woman in the jaw.

The men ran north and east from the house toward an alley The victim was taken to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening, police said. She was no longer a patient on Thursday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Detectives are interviewing witnesses and lab technicians are collecting evidence, Schroeder said. There’s no indication why the two men were there, he said.

“They didn’t know they had a gun until shots were fired,” Schroeder said of the victims.

The suspects are black males in their 20s, Schroeder said. They are both about 5-feet-11 and 160 pounds, and both wore dark hooded sweatshirts.

The suspect who fired the shots has a goatee, police were told.
