Wings trade Beasley, Perez to Syracuse

The Wichita Wings sent midfielders Jamar Beasley and Bryan Perez to Syracuse for midfielders Andre Berenzon and Matthew Clare on Tuesday night in a trade between MISL teams looking to reverse poor starts.

The move was the latest in the Wings’ effort to bolster their offense. They added reigning MVP Geison Moura in the offseason along with Miguel Ferrer, Andrew Hoxie and Tiguinho, but the offense has sputtered. The Wings have scored 45 points, second-to-last in the league to Milwaukee, which has played two fewer games. Both teams average nine points per game.

Beasley was Wichita’s leading scorer last year with 59 points, which ranked ninth in the league. Beasley has been held scoreless this season, though he missed 2 ½ games with a concussion.

Perez scored 47 points in Wichita’s inaugural season, becoming a viable scoring option in the second half. He has scored twice this season in five games.

Berenzon scored 20 points in five games for Syracuse last season and has totaled three two-point goals so far in 2012. Clare had 48 points last season with Norfolk and has 11 points in six games this year. The Wings beat Syracuse last weekend for their only victory.

“These two guys are very good with experience and aggressiveness,” Wings general manager John Blazek said in a text message Tuesday night. “We have some talent but (we’re) missing a part of two. If you continue to do the same thing you will get the same results.”

Wings coach LeBaron Hollimon wasn’t immediately available for comment. Wichita’s next game is Dec. 7 at Baltimore. They return to Wichita on Dec. 21 against Missouri.
