Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta/.

The record: A database of searchable real estate sales in Sedgwick County.

Why you’d want it: To learn what houses near yours are selling for in case you are considering selling. Or, if you are buying, to ensure the house you may buy is priced properly.

Where to get it: Go to www.sedgwickcounty.org. From the menu on the right-hand side of the page, click the “Real Property Sales Information” link under the “Property” category. Then search by specific address or by an address range.
