The cold-shooting Wichita State women’s basketball team lost to Missouri 49-44 on Thursday at the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico.

The Shockers shot 26.1 percent (16 of 61) from the field and 47.4 percent (9 of 19) from the free-throw line. WSU scored just 15 points in the first half, missing 25 of the 32 shots it attempted.

Missouri used a 15-3 run during a six-minute stretch of the second half to build a 17-point lead. Wichita State never cut the lead under five points the rest of the way.

Jessica Diamond was the lone Shocker who seemed immune to shooting struggles. She scored 18 points and hit a pair of three-pointers. Alex Harden had 10 rebounds and five assists.

The offensive struggles outweighed a good defensive effort. WSU held Missouri to 14 made baskets and forced 22 turnovers.

Wichita State will play Richmond at noon Friday, then wrap up the series in Cancun against James Madison on Saturday.
