Several area law enforcement agencies will crack down on impaired drivers and others violating traffic laws Friday, as shoppers scour the stores for holiday deals.
During the 24-hour initiative — known as Operation Impact — officers in Sedgwick and Butler counties will cite motorists for a variety of infractions, according to a news release from Dave Corp, law enforcement liaison for the Kansas Department of Transportation. Authorities will be looking for those who are speeding, texting while driving and driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Those not wearing seat belts or driving aggressively will also be stopped and ticketed.
Agencies participating are the Kansas Highway Patrol, Sedgwick County and Butler County sheriff’s offices and the McConnell Air Force Base Security Forces Squadron. Police departments in Wichita, Andover, Augusta, Bel Aire, Colwich, Derby, El Dorado, Goddard, Haysville, Kechi, Maize, Mulvane, Park City and Valley Center will also take part.
