Students headed home after school escaped injury Tuesday when their bus driver pulled in front of another vehicle, causing a collision.
Sedgwick County sheriff’s Sgt. Gary Hargus said the woman told authorities she did not see the other vehicle as she turned the school bus onto 311th Street West from 15th Street South, near Garden Plain.
The driver of the other vehicle — a man in his 50s — stomped on his brakes, attempting to stop. But he slid sideways and hit the bus, Hargus said.
The accident happened at about 3:50 p.m. about a mile west of Garden Plain.
Some children, ranging from 5 to 10 years old, were on the school bus; none were injured, Hargus said. The man complained he hurt his elbow in the crash, but refused medical treatment at the scene.
