Canvassing of Sedgwick County’s general election results will be conducted Thursday and Friday.

The canvassing, which is the official review of voting results and ballots, will start at 3 p.m. on Thursday and resume at 1:30 p.m. on Friday at the election office, 510 N. Main, Suite 101.

Canvassing generally starts in the morning and is concluded in one day. But a scheduling conflict prevented the county commissioners, who make up the canvassing board, from starting until Thursday afternoon, said Tabitha Lehman, the county’s election commissioner.

The board will have to consider more than 6,400 provisional ballots, Lehman said. During the 2008 presidential election year, 7,100 provisional ballots were cast. About 15,000 more people voted four years ago.

Lehman identified three races where the provisional ballots could alter the outcome:

• State Senate District 25: Unofficial results have Republican Michael O’Donnell with 9,117 votes to Democrat Tim Snow’s 8,797 for a difference of 320 votes.

• State House District 98: Unofficial results have Republican Phil Hermanson with 3,029 votes to Democrat Geraldine Flaharty’s 2,811 for a difference of 218 votes.

• Payne Township ballot issue: On a question of authorizing spending up to $190,000 for the construction and equipping of a building for maintenance and storage, unofficial results showed 248 yes votes and 242 no votes.
