An elderly Hutchinson man died Monday afternoon, a day after he was struck by a car while crossing the street.

The man, who is in his 70s, was walking north in the crosswalk of East Avenue A in Hutchinson at about 3:50 p.m. on Sunday when he was hit by a car coming west in the inside lane, Hutchinson police Sgt. Rob Rowe said in a prepared statement. The victim was flown by medical helicopter to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis for treatment.

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed the man’s death Monday afternoon.

The 43-year-old woman driving the car was not injured, Rowe said. The investigation into the incident is continuing, and anyone who saw the collision or has additional information is encouraged to call the Hutchinson Police Department at 620-694-2816.
