TOPEKA — Shawnee County's election commissioner has released the names of voters who cast provisional ballots in this week's elections to the candidates in a tight Kansas House race.
But Friday's action by Election Commissioner Andrew Howell may not end a legal battle over disclosure of the names.
Howell faced an order from Shawnee County District Court Judge Rebecca Crotty to release the names to Democratic state Rep. Ann Mah and Republican challenger Ken Corbet. The Topeka residents are separated by 27 votes out of nearly 11,000 cast, with Corbet leading.
Howell confirmed he emailed lists to both.
Secretary of State Kris Kobach went to federal court to block the disclosure. He didn't get an order by Friday evening but said he's looking at ways to keep the names from being used.
