New license plates available at Sedgwick County tag offices will honor veterans of the Vietnam War.

The plates are available for automobiles, motorcycles and trucks less than 20,000 pounds.

The specialty tags do not cost extra, but regular registration fees and property taxes do apply as well as a $5.50 transfer fee.

To get one of the tags, veterans must provide:

• A completed military veteran license plate application, form TR-102, which can be found on the county’s website, www.sedgwickcounty.org.

• A copy of the applicant’s DD214, a document that summarizes one’s military service, showing one of the following medals were awarded: the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal if the veteran served in Vietnam between July 1, 1958, and July 3, 1965; or the Vietnam Service Medal if the veteran served in Vietnam between July 4, 1965, and March 28, 1973.

Proof of eligibility is required only for the initial application and won’t be required when tags are renewed annually.
