Holiday-decorating talk
Evelyn Neier will be at Botanica on Wednesday to give ideas for holiday decorating. Neier, who worked for several years as a florist, will speak from 12:15 to 1 p.m. The lunchtime lecture is included in Botanica admission. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $7.
Garden tip
Once you finish planting bulbs, clean up the garden area, recommends Amy Dube with Dig.Drop.Done. Squirrels in search of a good meal will recognize clues like bulb debris and head for the spot where you worked. Fresh mulch can also attract them, so wait until after a good fall frost to add that topping.

Mum sale at Botanica
Botanica has started to sell its fall mums, for $1 a plant, and will continue through Nov. 16. Also in bloom in the gardens are asters, including this Symphyotrichum oblongifolium Raydon’s Favorite, pictured above, in the Three-Season Perennial Border.
