A pedestrian died Friday after he was hit by a car on 17th Street near Piatt, authorities say.
Wichita police Sgt. Don Story said the victim a man in his 50s or 60s may have been crossing 17th Street around 7:10 p.m. when a woman driving eastbound struck him. The impact threw the man into westbound traffic, where he may have been struck again, Story said.
"There was a number of cars involved to varying degrees," Story said. "... We're investigating whether vehicles that were westbound may have hit the thrown pedestrian."
The man died at the scene. His name has not been released.
Story said the woman, in her 60s, suffered a "superficial laceration to her hand or arm" but was not transported for treatment. Police do not think she was speeding or impaired when the accident occurred.
Seventeenth Street remained closed near Piatt late Friday evening while investigators interviewed witnesses and reconstructed the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
