The Wings open their MISL season on Friday night against the Missouri Comets in Independence, Mo.
The Wings failed to make the playoffs last season, the team’s first since reforming and returning to the indoor soccer league. Wichita has added MISL MVP Geison Moura to the roster, along with midfielder Miguel Ferrer. Moura led the league in scoring last season with 90 points for Kansas City. Ferrer led Norfolk with 51 points, and Jamar Beasley scored 59 for Wichita.
Sanaldo Carvalho returns in goal for the Wings, whose defense held 23 of 24 opponents under 20 points last season. Defenders Chris Lemons, Omar Quiroz and Kevin Ten Eyck return.
The Comets reached the MISL playoffs last season, losing to eventual champion Milwaukee in the semifinals. They have signed Will John, who played three seasons in the MLS before going to Europe. He is the son of Emilio John, a one-time Comets star.
The Wings’ home-opener is Sunday afternoon against the Comets.
