A Hutchinson man died Wednesday night after being shot with a firearm at a party in the city.

According to Hutchinson Police Department reports, Dustin A. Brooks, 26, 910 N. Jefferson, was taken to Hutchinson Regional Medical Center after being shot in the 200 block of North Cleveland in the alley. Brooks later succumbed to his injuries while at the hospital.

According to a release from Hutchinson Police Patrol Lt. John Moore, at about 8:06 p.m. Wednesday, Hutchinson police officers were dispatched to the scene of the shooting. The victim had been transported by private vehicle prior to the officers’ arrival to a second residence in the 100 block of East Avenue A, and then to the fire station at Avenue B and Walnut. EMS responded and took the victim to HRMC. Moore said Brooks suffered a gunshot wound to the torso. Lifesaving efforts including emergency surgery failed, and Brooks succumbed to his wound.

Moore said the shooting stemmed from a party at 203 N. Cleveland.

Police are following up on and interviewing potential suspects and witnesses in the case, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hutchinson Police Department at (620) 694-2816 or Crime Stoppers of Kansas at (620) 694-2666.

Moore earlier had said the incident involved one shooter and one victim.
