A 25-year-old man was arrested at a Wichita apartment complex Tuesday following a robbery and scuffle outside a “detox shop,” police said.

A 21-year-old woman was leaving the Hot Spot Detox Shop at 1539 E. Central, near I-135, with her mother shortly before noon Tuesday when the suspect approached and tried to steal her purse, Lt. Doug Nolte said.

The woman resisted, and her mother “joined the fray,” Nolte said. As the scuffle continued, a man who works in the store stepped outside to see what was going on.

He also attempted to halt the crime and was hit twice in the head by the robber, Nolte said. The robber managed to get a wallet out of the young woman’s purse and ran away.

Police were called and arrived quickly, Nolte said. With a good description to work with, they found the man at the complex nearby at New York and Mathewson.

The shop employee suffered numerous visible injuries in the scuffle, Nolte said, but he was not seriously hurt.
