Gay-rights activist Lt. Dan Choi, known for challenging the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, has cancelled appearances scheduled for Tuesday at Wichita State University.
WSU spokesman Joe Kleinsasser said Choi was unable to fly into Wichita for an afternoon workshop and 7 p.m. presentation, “Truths and Consequences,” because Hurricane Sandy is causing flight cancellations from the East Coast. The event, to be held in Hubbard Hall Room 208, was to focus on Choi’s experiences with discrimination.
It’s unknown whether Choi’s appearance will be rescheduled, Kleinsasser said.
Choi’s speech is part of the university’s Anti-Hate and Respect Week, held through Nov. 2. Other events — including a community dialogue set for 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Room 111 of Lindquist Hall — will take place as scheduled, WSU’s Office of Multicultural Affairs program coordinator Natalie Toney said.
