Wichita police have taken a 17-year-old boy into protective custody after receiving an anonymous tip saying the handicapped boy had been left alone in a home without electricity.
Police received the phone call late Saturday at about 11:15 p.m.
When officers arrived at the home in the 2600 block of East Orchard, near Ninth and Hillside, they found the boy near a space heater hooked to an extension cord running to the neighbor’s house, according to Sgt. Bart Brunscheen, spokesman for the Wichita Police Department.
Police were unsuccessful in reaching the boy’s father and decided to take the boy into protective custody, particularly when he told police he had not eaten anything all day.
