KC Fed survey: manufacturing slowed in October

Manufacturing in the Kansas City Federal Reserve district declined slightly in October and producers’ expectations for future activity fell considerably, but remained slightly positive, according to the bank’s latest survey.

Many attributed the pullback to the uncertain political and fiscal situation, which has affected customers’ willingness to place orders, according to information provided by the bank. Manufacturers’ expectations fell for production and employment, but factories’ capital spending plans for early next year remained largely intact.

The Kansas City Federal Reserve District includes Kansas, Colorado, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Wyoming, the western third of Missouri and the northern half of New Mexico.
