Simmons’ quarterly net income falls

Simmons First National Corp. on Wednesday said its earnings for the third quarter of 2012 fell compared with the same period a year ago.

Net income for the Pine Bluff, Ark., holding company of Simmons First National Bank was $6.76 million in the three-month period ending Sept. 30. That compares with $7.25 million in the third quarter of 2011.

For the first nine months of the year, however, net income was slightly higher, increasing to $19.65 million compared with $19.06 million in 2011.
