How to nominate

Profit Builders Inc. was honored to be one of the recipients of the 2012 Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award.

When we were nominated last year, we did not realize the positive impact the application process would have on our business. The process took us on a journey of evaluating our business using a new perspective.

It provided us the opportunity to ask questions every business should ask to continue to make an impression within its respective industry. Questions such as: “Are we a good employer?” “What have we done in the business community and do we make a difference?” “Do we react to challenge, change and obstacles in a positive way?”

Involving our employees in the process gave them a sense of ownership and pride and permitted them an opportunity to share ideas for improvement. The customer feedback we received during the process repeatedly praised the dedication of our employees.

The message was loud and clear: “Little things do matter” and it was great to be able to share that feedback with our employees.

Our name recognition within the Wichita business community has increased significantly since our participation in the 2012 awards program.

However, the new relationships with businesses that we have developed directly as part of this process are what we value the most.

Over the years, we have built relationships with customers and vendors across many states, but there is always something special in learning from Wichita-based businesses that share the same Midwest ideals.

The Small Business of the Year Awards process, from the nomination events to the judges’ onsite visit to the awards luncheon, offered us one opportunity after another to learn from fellow business owners and operators.

Interacting with this group of peers has allowed us to network and grow within the Wichita community. We have had the opportunity to build relationships with many other small businesses that are either fellow nominees, past award recipients or fellow Chamber members. The various events the Chamber of Commerce sponsored as part of the Small Business Awards this year contribute to the sense of responsibility we have in our community.

As the 2013 Small Business Award nomination process kicks off, we encourage others to look around and consider the difference small business makes in your workplace. You’re sure to know of a business that is worthy of this nomination, whether it’s a customer, a vendor or your business itself.

If your business is nominated, take part in the events the Chamber of Commerce sponsors throughout the coming months as a unique and affordable opportunity for your small businesses to showcase your product or service.

The application process will allow you to reflect on your small business story, which is part of the backbone of American business success. In addition, you will be presented with a great opportunity to learn from business associates through the Wichita area.

Thank you, Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce, for supporting and promoting small business with this worthwhile awards program.
