Wichita police checking a report of gunshots heard in a southeast Wichita neighborhood Wednesday found some property damage but no victims as of late evening.

Wichita police Lt. Jeff Gilmore said several officers were responding to an unrelated call in the neighborhood near East Roseberry and Vassar Court when they heard multiple gunshots around 9:30 p.m. They immediately canvassed the area, searching for suspects and victims, he said.

Gilmore said some witnesses report seeing two people – possibly men – running to the north after the shots were fired. Others told police a vehicle was seen speeding away, but it’s unknown whether the vehicle was involved in the shooting, Gilmore said.

Initial reports indicated some houses were hit, but Gilmore said officers hadn’t found any bullet holes in houses as of late evening. Some property sitting outside of area houses – and possibly a car – sustained damage.

The shooting happened in the 3500 block of east Roseberry, located southeast of Pawnee and Hillside.

Anyone with details on the shooting is encouraged to call 911.
