Authorities are looking into how a 4-month-old girl suffered a broken left leg and a broken toe on her left foot, Wichita police said Wednesday.

The girl was brought to Wesley Medical Center by her mother early Tuesday night, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. The woman became concerned after her daughter appeared to be favoring her left side.

An evaluation revealed a broken left femur and a broken toe, Schroeder said. The mother said the injuries may have occurred on Monday, when a 30-year-old couple was babysitting her daughter.

The Exploited and Missing Child Unit is investigating the case, Schroeder said. The child has been admitted to Wesley for treatment.
