A 48-year-old man was jailed after witnesses said he charged a parked vehicle with his car, then fought with a police officer before being Tased early Monday morning in north Wichita, authorities said.

The incident unfolded at about 4:50 a.m. Monday in the 1100 block of West 37th Street North, Lt. Doug Nolte said. That’s just south of I-235 and west of Arkansas.

A 39-year-old man sitting in his car in a parking lot of the industrial area reported another man charged his Suzuki Equator with his Ford Escort before swerving away at the last moment, Nolte said. He called 911, and officers arrived quickly at the scene.

The suspect jumped on the hood of the Suzuki, causing damage, and charged at a police officer working the case. A scuffle ensued, with the officer using his Taser to subdue the man.

He was taken into custody. Officers found a crack pipe in the suspect’s Escort, a police report states.

Investigators will be reviewing surveillance video of the incident as part of fact-finding in the case, Nolte said. At least three other people witnessed the incident as well, he said.
