The Wichita chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners will hold a daylong “Reach for the Stars” business workshop for Dress for Success clients in November.
“We wanted to specifically use our knowledge and expertise to help women trying to further their careers and goals for the future,” said Chris Veazey Brown, an association publicity and workshop committee member and partner in the Women’s Fair. “It’s going to be a real fun thing for women to go to.”
The workshop will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 3 at the Wichita Area Builders Association, 730 N. Main. Breakfast and lunch will be included.
To attend, women must be referred to the program by one of the area’s 81 social agencies, such as the Workforce Alliance of South Central Kansas, Harbor House, YWCA’s Women’s Crisis Center or Catholic Charities.
“It will be a professional workshop geared toward women taking control of their careers, control of goals and discovering their potential in the workplace, creating a better life for themselves and their families,” said Pat Jones, executive director for Wichita’s Dress for Success.
The workshop will include such topics as setting goals, self-improvement, work ethics, etiquette, teamwork and wardrobe for the workplace.
“I’ve wanted to do a conference for so long, but we didn’t have the resources, so when (the association) offered this, I was so excited to partner with them on this project,” Jones said.
They hope to teach what’s expected in the Wichita business culture, Brown said.
“We feel like at NAWBO, since we’re business owners, we know what bosses are looking for,” Brown said.
If the event is successful, organizers hope to hold it annually.
Those interested in attending should call Dress for Success at 316-945-8779 to register. Deadline to register is Oct. 26. There is no cost for the event.
