A McPherson College student in the school’s Auto Restoration Program is going to get not only a coveted work assignment, but some national TV exposure in the process.

Taylor Adams, a senior from Ashland, Va., has been selected to serve as an apprentice to Wayne Carini, star of "Chasing Classic Cars" on the Velocity Channel by Discovery.

Carini came to the McPherson campus in May to interview students and attend the C.A.R.S. Club car show. McPherson College is the only college in the country offering a full 4-year bachelor’s degree in auto restoration.

"We want these young people to take over our own businesses or start their own someday," Carini said. "If we don’t have that, all of this is going to go away."

"Chasing Classic Cars" documents Carini’s efforts to track down, buy, restore and then resell collector cars. Adams, a member of the school’s Model T build team, which can assemble a working, drivable Model T from parts in just minutes, will be part of Carini’s shop team.

An episode of "Chasing Classic Cars" titled "Wayne’s Apprentice" will air at 9 p.m. Tuesday on the Velocity Channel, featuring Adams and other students in the restoration program. It will also be rebroadcast at other times. For more information, check out www.velocity.discovery.com and look for the TV schedules tab.
