The Wichita area unemployment rate dropped sharply in September to 6.2 percent, compared to 7.3 percent in August.
The rate reflects an increase of about 2,000 jobs in the four-county metro area, and a drop of more than 3,000 unemployed people searching for work.
The unemployment rate for the state of Kansas rate fell to 5.3 percent.
In other cities, Topeka’s jobless rate was 6.0 percent; Kansas City, 5.4 percent; Lawrence, 4.8 percent; Manhattan, 4.6 percent.
