An undetermined number of Cox Communications customers lost phone service Tuesday, and some remained without service as of 5 p.m.

The company said it had begun restoring phone service to business customers Tuesday afternoon, but didn’t know how long it would take to bring all its customers back on line.

Coleen Jennison, director of governmental affairs for the Cox Central Region, couldn’t say Tuesday afternoon how long it would take to repair all the outages.

“They’ll continue to work until service is restored to all customers,” Jennison said.

She said she didn’t have a count of how many business customers were affected by the outage.

Jennison said she had not been informed of what caused the outage, which affected businesses not only in Wichita, but elsewhere in Kansas and in Oklahoma.

Cox Oklahoma is a separate operation from the company’s Wichita-based Central Region.

“When you have an outage like this, the main focus is to get everyone restored,” she said.

The outage affected Cox Business Voice Manager customers.
