Opinion Line Extra (Oct. 15)

Evidently Vice President Joe Biden thinks a debate is a joke. With all of his laughing, smirking, gestures and interruptions, he should be reprimanded by the president and make a televised apology to the debate monitor, Rep. Paul Ryan and the people of the United States.

Biden, long recognized as a sometimes profane but always clownish court jester, has solidified his place in American politics as not only the archetypal lawyer-politician and bully, but also now as a disrespectful, reptilian buffoon.

Why did Biden laugh at Ryan during the debate? Because Ryan’s policies and naivete are laughable.

We don’t want the present vice president for 12 more weeks, let alone four more years. Remember – this guffawing fool is one heartbeat away from being our president. Scary.

If Mitt Romney wins the election, I hope he doesn’t break down from being under the microscope 365 days a year.

I think we should send in Bill Clinton to sub for President Obama in the next debate. If not, I hope Obama finds the altitude in New York more conducive to debating than in Colorado.

“Missing news” was right-on (Oct. 12 Letters to the Editor). After 40 years as a Wichita Eagle subscriber, I am seriously considering canceling because of the leftist coverage of the presidential news. Romney was treated with disrespect by the news by not giving him fair and balanced coverage of his foreign policy speech.

I heard it said that Democrats do not attack Romney for the religion that he has (Mormon), yet Republicans attack Obama for the religion he does not have (Muslim). That statement puts the differing philosophies into context and gives an accurate perspective of each party’s mindset.

I will admit to being one of the 47 percent. I just don’t have enough income to tax.

Some Christian churches that could pass for country clubs for the wealthy insist on talking politics from the pulpit. Why aren’t they paying taxes?

Mark my words: The so-called security improvements to the Wichita City Council’s downtown bar district will not make any difference. The only change will be how much more the city tries to hide the violence that goes on there.

I agree with The Eagle’s Oct. 12 editorial commending the City Council on dealing with the problems in Old Town. I have no doubt that preventing pushcart sales after 1 a.m. will solve the problems.
