Police arrested a 35-year-old man wanted in connection with a shooting after a brief chase on Friday night, Sgt. Bruce Watts said.

Police doing surveillance spotted the suspect in the 800 block of South Drury, near Lincoln and Woodlawn. The shooting, which was reported about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, also happened in the 800 block of South Drury. The suspect had been beating a 29-year-old man with a handgun when the gun discharged, hitting the younger man in the shoulder, police said. The victim was treated at Wesley Medical Center and later released.

The suspect was taken into custody after the Friday chase. He was found with methamphetamines on him and was booked on suspicion of the shooting and for evading and eluding police. There also was a warrant out for his arrest.
