An SUV crashed into an east Wichita home Wednesday, displacing its residents and leaving the driver with minor injuries, police said.
Authorities think the man ran a stop sign posted at the intersection of 15th Street and North Fairmount, east of Hillside, and failed to negotiate a sharp curve shortly after 6 p.m., Wichita police Sgt. Don Story said. The man drove over the curb and hit the house, causing significant damage to its porch, patio and left side.
The driver suffered some bumps to his head but was treated and released from Wesley Medical Center on Wednesday evening, Story said.
Three people were home when the SUV struck the house, but none were hurt, he said.
Authorities think the man may have been speeding through the neighborhood, Story said.
“We’ll definitely be looking at the moving violations that would be involved,” he said. “And there’s an ongoing investigation of whether substance use was involved.”
The Red Cross was called to assist the family living in the house after fire crews deemed the structure unsafe, pending further investigation.
