City officials are trying to determine the cause of a water main break that damaged a hotel in Old Town and disrupted water service to six nearby businesses.
Joe Pajor, assistant director of public works and utilities, said a baseball-size hole blew out of a 12-inch cast-iron water line in the 300 block of North Mosley about 3:45 a.m. Wednesday.
He said water and debris from the break caused a significant amount of damage to two rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott hotel 820 E. Second. He said a subsequent power outage caused by flooding in the basement of the building forced the temporary closing of the business.
Pajor said traffic was expected to be blocked on Mosley between Second and Third streets for most of the day as workers repair the broken line.
