Each Monday, The Eagle highlights a government record that is available to the public. Open records help people keep government in check and help them better understand how government affects their lives.

For a complete list of You Oughta Know columns, go to www.kansas.com/oughta/.

The record: Presidential campaign finance reports.

Why you’d want it: To learn more about campaign fundraising efforts at the presidential level.

Where you get it: Go to the Federal Election Commission’s website at www.fec.gov/disclosure.shtml. Then click on the “View Summaries of Select Presidential Filings.” You then may search by month.

How much the record will cost: The information is free.
