The Prairie Fire Wichita Marathon’s fun run and walk will benefit patients recovering in Via Christi Regional Burn Center for a second year.

The all-ages, non-competitive event is set for 11:30 a.m., Oct. 14, in downtown Wichita. Participants will start near the Lewis Street Bridge and stroll a one-mile course along the Arkansas River.

The event is sponsored by the Paige Estes Memorial Foundation, whose namesake was killed by a drunk driver in 2005. Paige’s husband, local runner Jared Estes, suffered severe burns during the fiery crash; he credits Via Christi staff with helping to save his life.

Registration cost $20 per person. To sign up, go to www.prairiefiremarathon.com and click on the “Races” tab then “Fun Run and Walk.” A mail-in registration form is also on the website.

Race packets must be picked up Oct. 13 at the Fit For Life Expo, held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Century II Exhibition Hall. On-site registration is not available.

For a full schedule of Prairie Fire events go to the marathon’s website. Details about the Paige Estes Memorial Foundation are on Facebook.
