A Jackson County judge sentenced a Kansas City man to 30 years in prison Thursday for killing a male prostitute who was posing as a woman.
Kenyan L. Jones, 27, admitted to police that he paid to have sexual relations with Darnell Pearson on Christmas Eve 2011, believing that he was a woman. When he learned otherwise several hours later, Jones told police, he obtained a handgun and chased Pearson to the entry of an apartment building in the 1000 block of East 43rd Street.
There, Jones said, he “popped him.”
A witness told police that she heard several shots and saw a man wearing a hoodie-style shirt running away and the victim lying in front of the apartment. Officers soon arrested Jones on East 43rd Street and, nearby, recovered a handgun and hooded jacket and a cell phone containing video of Jones.
