Gov. Sam Brownback was on hand last week to inaugurate the new Rooks County Regional Airport near Stockton in western Kansas.

At the dedication, Bombardier Aerospace’s Learjet 45XR became the first jet to land at the airport.

“We are honored to have been able to participate in the dedication,” Ralph Acs, vice president and general manager of Bombardier’s Learjet plant, said in a statement.

The airport, which has a 5,000-foot concrete runway, replaces two turf runway airports at Stockton and Plainville and consolidates the airports into one.

The $6 million project was paid for with Airport Improvement Program funds and local matching funds.
