The first presidential debate kicks off tonight in Denver at the University of Denver, moderated by Jim Lehrer, host of PBS’ NewsHour. Starting at 8 p.m. CST, this first debate will cover domestic policy. The debate will be divided into six time segments of approximately 15 minutes each on topics selected by the moderator and announced several weeks before the debate, according to Election Central. Each debate is expected to be broadcast live on C-SPAN, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, as well as all cable news channels.
The remaining three debates will occur one per week in October. Here is the schedule:
Vice-presidential debate
Oct. 11, 8 to 9:30 p.m. CST
Topic: Foreign and domestic policy
Location: Centre College in Danville, Ky.
Moderator: Martha Raddatz, ABC News Chief Foreign Correspondent
The debate will be divided into nine time segments of approximately 10 minutes each.
Second presidential debate
Oct. 16, 8 to 9:30 p.m. CST
Topic: Town meeting format, foreign and domestic policy
Location: Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.
Moderator: Candy Crowley, CNN Chief Political Correspondent
Town meeting participants (undecided voters picked by the Gallup Organization), will ask questions. Candidates each will have two minutes to respond, and an additional minute for the moderator to drive the discussion.
Final presidential debate
Oct. 22, 8 to 9:30 p.m. CST
Topic: Foreign policy
Location: Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla.
Moderator: Bob Schieffer, host of CBS’ Face the Nation
The format of this last debate will be identical to the first presidential debate.
