A 52-year-old man is dead and one northbound lane on the Kansas Turnpike remained closed late Monday following a tractor-trailer rollover accident in Sumner County.

The accident happened at about 6 p.m. Monday about four miles north of the Kansas-Oklahoma line.

The cause of the accident was speed, a dispatcher with the Kansas Turnpike Authority said. “He was going too fast for the exit.”

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.

The dispatcher said the driver was exiting Highway 166 to I-35 going northbound and lost control. His truck, which was hauling liquid petroleum, rolled over and flipped on its side.

KTA authorities expect the lane to remain closed while cleanup continues.
