A Wichita man is in fair condition at a local hospital after being run over in rural Reno County Wednesday night, authorities said.

Authorities were sent to 5510 E. 69th Street at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in response to a report that someone had been run over, Reno County Sheriff’s Captain Wayne Baughman Jr. said. Once they arrived at the scene, deputies learned that a man in a Ford F150 came up a small hill, lost control and drove toward a crowd.

Everyone in the crowd except Daron O’Malley was able to get out of the way, Baughman said. O’Malley, 24, was flown by medical helicopter to Wesley Medical Center, where he was in fair condition Thursday afternoon.

Tommy Rockey, 46, of Hutchinson, was arrested on suspicion of reckless aggravated battery, Baughman said. Investigators think alcohol played a role in the incident.
