One man is dead after his motorcycle hit a car in the eastbound lanes of Kellogg near the Kansas Turnpike on Wednesday afternoon.
Wichita police Capt. Hassan Ramzah said witnesses report seeing the man driving east on Kellogg at a "high rate of speed" about 2:50 p.m. when he struck the rear of a passenger car and then a street sign.
Officers found the motorcyclist lying in a ditch on the south side of Kellogg; he was dead. The victim has not been identified yet, Ramzah said.
"The motorcycle went out of control and struck a sign on Kellogg to the Turnpike entrance," Ramzah said at the scene.
It’s unknown whether the man killed was wearing a helmet, Ramzah said.
No other injuries were reported.
Wichita police continued to investigate the scene around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. Drivers were asked to avoid eastbound Kellogg near the Turnpike exit in east Wichita, where traffic is down to one lane.
The Kansas Highway Patrol was also on scene.
