More than 4,000 people in Sedgwick County were without power as storms moved through Wichita and surrounding towns late Tuesday.
By 11:46 p.m., Westar Energy had reported outages to 4,048 customers, according to outage reports posted on its website. Most were concentrated in northwest Wichita, Maize, Valley Center and Park City. A few customers in south Wichita also lost power.
Westar spokesman Shane Batchelder said the outages started around 10:30 p.m. and continued to increase throughout the evening. At one point, outages doubled to more than 4,000 within minutes as rain continued in the area Tuesday night.
“It’s pretty widespread through the city,” he said. “It’s all over Sedgwick County for the most part.”
Service should be restored within 12 hours, Batchelder said.
