First quarter
Key play: Landry Jones threw behind an open Brannon Green in the end zone, which led to an Oklahoma field goal instead of a touchdown.
Key stat: Both teams were one for three on third-down conversions.
Second quarter
Key play: Justin Tuggle hit Landry Jones from behind to cause a fumble, Jarell Childs picked up the loose ball and scored the game’s first touchdown.
Key stat: Oklahoma rushed for negative yardage in the second quarter.
Third quarter
Key play: Officials overturned a Jones fumble, because after watching a replay they decided he was attempting a pass. Instead of K-State possessing the ball near the goal line, Oklahoma drove 88 yards and scored a go-ahead touchdown.
Key stat: Oklahoma gained 126 yards of total offense.
Fourth quarter
Key play: Ty Zimmerman intercepted an overthrown Jones pass just when it looked like Oklahoma was gaining momentum. K-State took the lead 17-13 a few minutes later on a Klein rushing touchdown.
Key stat: K-State scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter.
Report card
Offense: B+. John Hubert played arguably his best game in a K-State uniform and the Wildcats converted on third down when they had to.
Defense: A. K-State scored a defensive touchdown and forced three turnovers. That more than made up for the Sooners gaining yardage between the 20s.
Special teams: A. Ryan Doerr continually put Oklahoma in poor field position, and K-State didn’t make any mistakes.
Coaching: A. Bill Snyder’s defense gave up lots of yards to lesser opponents coming into Saturday, but K-State made good adjustments and played well against Oklahoma. The Wildcats were ready.
Player of the game
Ty Zimmerman, the safety made an interception, grabbed a fumble, made a sack and almost had another interception in the second quarter. He was the key player in K-State’s secondary.
Reason to hope
K-State is undefeated and has won one of the toughest games on its schedule.
Reason to mope
Oklahoma didn’t play well, and committed unforced errors. K-State deserves credit for taking advantage, but it occasionally got help.
Looking ahead
K-State heads into its open week with plenty of momentum before Kansas comes to Manhattan on Oct. 6.
