A second man has been arrested in connection with the robbery and shooting of a man in his south Wichita house earlier this week, police said.

The 23-year-old man had been booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on Tuesday morning on an outstanding warrant, records show. Using forensic evidence, investigators were able to link the man to the home robbery that occurred at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 2200 block of South Fountain, which is southeast of Mount Vernon and George Washington Boulevard.

Authorities have said two men, one armed with a rifle and the other armed with a shotgun, came into a garage being converted into a bedroom and awakened a 17-year-old boy who was sleeping there. They then took him into the house, where they confronted the teen’s 20-year-old brother and demanded cash and property.

When the older brother refused, the robber armed with the rifle fired once, striking him in the lower abdomen, police have said. They then took a 40-inch Sony flatscreen TV and left the house, a police report states.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested at a house on South Broadview not far from where the robbery took place — the same house the second suspect was staying, Lt Joe Schroeder said.

After hearing a description of the suspects, Schroeder said, beat officers “had a hunch and they followed up on it.

“It was good police work.”

The shooting victim is expected to recover from his injuries, police have said.
