A Leavenworth man pleaded guilty today to indecency with a child, although he said he was drunk and does not remember exactly what he did.

Daniel Young, 27, will be sentenced Oct. 24 for aggravated indecent liberties with a child and attempted aggravated solicitation of a child under 14.

Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson said the incident occurred sometime between 2005 and 2011. The child involved also told authorities that Young was drunk when it happened.

Thompson said the child’s family approved of the plea agreement and were most concerned that Young get treatment for substance abuse and sexual abuse. Thompson said the family understood that Kansas’ so-called Jessica’s Law, which calls for a 25-year sentence for first-time sex offenders who victimize children, would not apply in this case “due to multiple reasons.”
