Sammy Flaharty will replace Pamela Frieden as the Democratic nominee in Kansas House District 93.
Flaharty and her husband, both of Garden Plain, were part of the three-person precinct committee charged with picking a new candidate Thursday after Frieden withdrew from the race.
“I glad they finally got it done because I wanted to go on with my campaign,” said Flaharty, a Kansas Corporation Commission retiree and former salon owner who now substitute teaches.
She lost to Frieden, who had no plans to seek the seat, 262-164 in the August primary.
Flaharty will face Republican George Edwards and former legislator Dan Thimesch, who is running as an independent, on Nov. 6. House District 93 covers southwest Sedgwick County.
