Medical equipment needed by Independent Living Resource Center

The cupboards are getting bare at the Independent Living Resource Center, which lends medical equipment to people who need it, regardless of income.

“We just ask for people to clean out their basements and their garages” and bring in equipment that is no longer being used so that others can use it, said Deb Umberger of the center.

“Bath equipment is especially a need, because Medicare and Medicaid don’t pay for that,” Umberger said. Examples include toilet risers, shower and transfer chairs, and grab bars. Crutches, front-wheel walkers and four-wheel walkers also are needed.

Equipment in good repair can be taken to the center at 3033 W. Second St. between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. weekdays. To borrow equipment, call 316-942-6300, Ext. 209, to check on availability.
