An infant girl was hospitalized Monday afternoon after she was found to be under the influence of meth, police said.

The 8-month-old’s mother called at about 4 p.m. Monday to say she was on the way to the hospital because her baby had fallen off the bed and was not responsive, Lt. Joe Schroeder said. An ambulance met the mother’s vehicle at Broadway and Pawnee and took the girl the rest of the way to Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis.

Tests at the hospital revealed the infant was under the influence of meth, Schroeder said. Her 34-year-old mother was arrested, and after additional investigation a 50-year-old man living at the same hotel as the mother and child was also booked into jail.

They both face possible charges of child endangerment and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, Schroeder said. They were both living at the Value Place Hotel South at 4665 S. Broadway.

The baby was placed in protective custody. She is stable and is being treated at St. Francis, Schroeder said.

The Exploited and Missing Child Unit has been called in to conduct further investigation.
