Newton Medical Center to celebrate 125 years

Newton Medical Center is celebrating 125 years of health care with two events this month in conjunction with the Newton Chamber of Commerce. The anniversary marks the founding of Axtell Christian Hospital, which later merged with Bethel Deaconess Hospital in the 1980s to form Newton Medical Center. The building was dedicated in 1997.

The event will be celebrated with a chamber breakfast at 7:15 a.m. on Sept. 21 at the Meridian Center, 1420 E. Broadway Court. Tickets are $10 in advance and walk-ins will be $11. For tickets, contact Cindy at 316-283-2560. A Chamber After Hours event will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 26 at Newton Medical Center, 600 Medical Center Drive., according to the Chamber’s website.

Newton Medical Center is a 103-bed hospital that operates in Harvey, Butler and northern Sedgwick counties. It has expanded to include Medical Plaza primary care clinics in Park City and Valley Center and formed Advanced Neurology Consultants, Allen Eye Associates, Area Psychiatric Services, Lovelle Plastic Surgery Specialists and the Newton Surgical Group. An orthopedic and sports medicine team will join Newton Medical Center in October.
