When does the State Fair start?

The opening ceremony is at 11 a.m. Friday. Games and carnival rides on the Midway open at 3 p.m. Friday and at 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. on the remaining days. The fair continues daily through Sept. 16. Generally, the fair shuts down each night at about 11 p.m.

Where is the fair?

In Hutchinson at the state fairgrounds. To get there from Wichita, take K-96 west to Yoder Road. Turn north and head into Hutchinson. Follow the signs to the fair.

What about parking?

There’s plenty of free parking in large lots east and north of the fairgrounds. Again, follow the signs. Free shuttles will be available to take visitors to the fairgrounds, although the walk is relatively short.

How much does it cost to get into the fair?

Gate admission is $10 for adults, $6 for seniors 60 and older, $4 for children ages 6-12 and free for kids 5 and under. Monday is dollar day, which means visitors get in for just $1 each or for free with a Dillons Plus Card (one per person). Thursday is “$4 after 4” day, and it costs $4 to get in starting at 4 p.m.

How much are carnival rides?

They vary for each ride. Generally, they’re $3 to $4 each. There are several special deals on rides on these days:

•  Friday and Sept. 14: Ride as many rides as you want for $25 between 3 and 11 p.m.

•  Monday: All rides just $1.25 each.

•  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: Ride all day for $25 a person.

•  Last day, Sept. 16: Unlimited rides for $25 between noon and 8 p.m.
