Bird, Taylor have tough days at Paralympics

Jordan Bird of Conway Springs did not medal in the 800-meter final at the London Paralympics on Thursday night.

Bird finished sixth in a time of 1 minute, 40.17 seconds, about 2 1/2 seconds behind winner David Weir of Great Britain. Bird is scheduled to race in the 1600 relay on Saturday.

In wheelchair tennis, Wichitan Nick Taylor will play for a bronze medal in quad singles after losing in Thursday’s semifinals.

Taylor lost to doubles partner David Wagner 6-2, 6-1. Taylor and Wagner teamed up to win gold in doubles on Wednesday.

Taylor will face Israel’s Shraga Weinberg in the bronze-medal match on Friday. Weinberg lost to fellow Israeli Noam Gershony 6-0, 6-0.
