David Cox, Kelly Dean & Lewis Recruiting

For Cox, finding the right match between employee and employer starts with writing the right job description.

“That’s really what I specialize in,” he said. “Coming and finding out what their culture is all about, what their five-year plan is all about, then taking that and doing a job description that’s meaningful.”

Cox, 46, grew up in Wichita and earned a degree in business management with emphasis on human resources management from Newman University.

He spent 23 years with another recruitment company that he describes as a “friendly competitor” that “allowed me an opportunity to grow through a management trainee program.”

He left because he wanted to build an equity stake in a business. Kelly Dean & Lewis was started two years ago and does executive placements on a national as well as local level.

“What drives me is the passion to help people find and select the very best candidate for their jobs,” he said.

Outside work, Cox has been active with Rainbows United, the Wichita Chamber of Commerce, Young Professionals of Wichita and the Society for Human Resource Management, which named him HR Professional of the Year for 2012.

He enjoys boating, water skiing, playing the drums and singing.

“Like Phil Collins,” he said. “I thought I’d be touring with Bon Jovi.”
